Dana Program

Following the age-old tradition of Buddhists of having the responsibility of supporting the monks and the temple, Chicago Buddhist Vihara community is collectively participating in providing meals (“Dana”) for the monks in the temple. As per Buddhist teaching, supporting the Maha Sangha (or monks) is a very meritorious deed as we are supporting a group of individuals who are seeking the path of Nirvana, as well as considered the guardians of the Dhamma.

While we offer meals to few individual monks physicaly, as per Buddhist teachings, one must be aware that the offering of “Dana” is considerd to be an offering for “universal” monk poupulation spans across past, present and future including past and future Buddhas and Arhats (individual who had attained Nirwana)
